In this economy it sometimes is not economically feasible to make the investments in new equipment that you'd like. But that makes it all the more important to take care of the equipment you have. In fact, now is the time to keep on top of your preventative maintenance programs, or even institute a preventive maintenance if you currently do not utilize one.

Crosset Installation Shows Great Performance

Three lines of chip thickness processing equipment running for nearly a year at a pulp and paper mill's woodyard in Crossett, Arkansas are performing to expectation.

The three lines include DiamondRoll Thickness Screens, DiamondRoll Fines Screens, Air Density Separation systems, and Acrowood Chip Crackers.

The installation represented a mill upgrade, replacing existing screening equipment. Two of the mill's lines run hardwood, the third runs pine chips.

What's New

If necessity is the mother of invention, as they say, then Acrowood sees a lot of need. Invention is what we do. And this economic recession isn't holding us back -- it's spurring us on to find new ways to meet the market demand for highly efficient machinery.

The market trend is definitely toward re-claiming recycled wood sources, and diverting pulpwood to a materials source for pellet plants.

In our test lab, where inventions are tested and proven, we've installed a production model 5216 Slant Disc Chipper. This chipper is producing ¼" long chips - which are an outstanding size for pellet production.

Today's shifting focus on biomass utilization also involves stepping back and looking at the diverse history of our products and product line and applying all we've learned to this new reality.

Not only can our chippers make single pass mini chips ideal for dryer or pelletizer introduction with little or no further processing, we can make the large chips that are required for cellulosic ethanol production. Acrowood DEAL rotary processing systems are being applied to the biomass sector to ensure long term low cost fiber supply.

While some facilities are focusing on the over abundance of high quality/premium wood fiber currently available as a result of the dramatic downturn in solid wood and pulp/paper demand, they know this will reverse as the economy rebounds.

With DEAL Processors as the main biomass infeed centers these facilities can handle the full spectrum of available wood fiber. These mills will be in position to utilize residual and unconventional fiber sources when changing economics dictate.
