Acrowood is a heavy equipment manufacturer located in Everett, WA; making forest products equipment since 1892, and serving clients on all continents. Specializing in large and high capacity machines to screen and clean all sorts of wood chips, sawdust, and shavings; Acrowood serves companies in the panel board, pulp and paper, and sawmilling industries.
The company began as Sumner Iron Works. Sumner flourished in the Pacific Northwest heyday of logging and lumbering, making nearly every type of equipment needed for felling and log yarding, sawmilling, hauling, and log rafting.
Sigurd Norman developed the first helicoidal-faced chipper at Sumner Iron Works in 1932. The trend of innovation continued in the mid-1950's with development of a vertical disc, horizontal feed, veneer chipper and powered feedworks. This initial design continued to evolve and is still the most popular solution for chipping waste veneer.

Sumner Iron Works was purchased by Black Clawson in 1963. The Everett Division was the Forest Products arm of this very large, New York-based company involved in all aspects of pulp and paper machinery.
Acrowood became an independently owned company in June, 1984 when Mr. Farhang Javid, Black Clawson Executive VP and GM, bought the Everett division and renamed it Acrowood Corporation. The technology of Chip Thickness Screening was a new focus of the pulp and paper industry. Javid organized the company to develop the machinery and processes necessary to address this increasing need. This focus spurred the development of the Acrowood Chip Slicer, the Disc Thickness Screen, and the DiamondRoll™ Screen, which were to become the cornerstone of the company for years to come.
In the mid-1990's, Acrowood developed the Chip Cracker; a new way to process overthick chips. Based on a concept originally developed by Black Clawson, chips pass between large steel rollers and are compressed; creating fissures that facilitate pulping liquor penetration.
Ongoing developments include methods of screening in the panel manufacturing markets of oriented strand board and particleboard. Along with continued evolution of DiamondRoll screening technology, Acrowood has introduced the Trillium™ disc screen which is capable of screening both dry and green strands effectively.
In 2008, Kendall Kreft was named Vice President, North American Sales, while Jun Tian was promoted to Vice President of Engineering, joining President and General Manager Farhang Javid on Acrowood's leadership team. The executive team is supported by purchasing and manufacturing staff that bring decades of experience to ensure Acrowood's continued strong position of leadership in the marketplace.
